Church, Frederic Edwin

American landscape painter, son of a prosperous Hartford businessman who studied with Thomas Cole. Frederic Edwin Church traveled widely in Europe and South America, using his sketches to make fabulous landscapes. Frederic Edwin Church is famous for his atmospheric landscapes, particularly of the Catskills.
