Grimshaw, John Atkinson

British painter who worked mainly in the North of England and lived in Yorkshire until his last years, spent in London. The son a Leeds policeman Grimshaw worked as railway clerk until the end of the 1850s when marriage andcontact with artists led him to commit himself to painting. His success was remarkable.
