Mignon, Abraham

German Baroque still-life painter.
Abraham Mignon studied with the still-life painter Jacob Marrel, who took him to Holland about 1660. Mignon then worked with Jan de Heem at Utrecht, where he joined the Guild of St. Luke in 1669. His flower pieces are marked by close observation, careful finish, and delicate handling. Abraham Mignon's favourite scheme was to introduce roses against a dark background. He also did detailed studies of the forest floor.
