Repin, Ilya

Russian painter. An important member of the Wanderers, Ilya Repin practiced a kind of melodramatic realism before joining the Mir Itkustva (World of Art) circle. Repin subsequently produced one or two art works in a Symbolist vein but the primary identity of his works is their Russianness.
