Coppedge, Fern I.

Born on a farm in Decatur, Illinois. Fern Coppedge studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and then at in New York at the Art Students league with William Merritt Chase. Her later compositions no longer depict the changing effects of light and atmosphere on the landscape but simplify the landscape in order to convey her emotions and mood. Fern Coppedge died aged sixty-seven in New Hope.
